Constructed more than a century ago, the stone labyrinth lie hidden in a field of tall grass and was not visible to to any passer-by. Long forgotten and overgrown, the spiral laid in waiting for its new caretaker. That is, until a developer purchased the land and uncovered the mysterious construction.
Joesph did not know what to do once he stumbled upon the spiral of stone. His job was simple — clear the fields to make way for new housing. But this space was sacred, he could feel it. Rather than mow over the thirty yard stone walkway, he began to weed by hand. The voice in his head warned him of the likeliness of discipline for ignoring orders, but Joesph kept working. It took him all day to reveal the stone spiral in all its glory — purely visible and purely alive.
There was only one thing left to do — walk it.
Joseph deliberately stepped onto the stone path and followed each conscious step with the next, slowly moving inward toward the center of the spiral. He was so focused on his movement, he did not notice the sky swirling above him, nor the cars on the near-by highway reversing direction… then rapidly deconstructing itself. Stone buildings erected around the labyrinth in reverse, magically appearing from dust.
Joseph finally looked up once he reached the center. To his amazement, the mower was gone, along with the highway, and he found himself in the middle of a small village. The stone building seemed intentionally positioned around the labyrinth he just walked — each facing the center and creating circle, themselves.
Frozen with confusion and fear, he stood in the center and watched the people busy with daily tasks bustling about the village. A small boy took notice of him and ran straight toward him through the spiral, ignoring the winding path of the stones.
“You’re here!” He smiled up at Joseph and grabbed his hand.
Stunned and doing his best to comprehend what just happened, Joseph did not resist the boy’s tug and followed him into one of the buildings. The marking on the doorway was strange and he did not recognize the language… Joesph began to wonder if he was dreaming.
The man inside welcomed Joseph and offered him a chair and some water.
“This will help clear your mind.”
The man sat across from Joseph and began to explain.
“We are your spirit clan. We have been waiting for you, Joseph, for over a century. You have a very important purpose. The ancestors brought you here to recreate humanity’s timeline, as the caretaker of the spiral.”
Joesph’s confusion only grew. “Spirit Clan… Caretaker… Humanity’s timeline... What? All I did was walk on a stone path!”
The man held eye contact with Joseph… and smiled.
